The basics

Which kind of denture do I need?

A full denture replaces all the teeth on the top or bottom. A partial denture fills gaps when you still have some natural teeth, held on with clasps. An implant-supported denture snaps onto two or more implants, so it moves less when you eat and talk. Dentures are made by dentists and prosthodontists, the ADA-recognized specialists in replacing teeth.

Dentures that click, slip or cause sore spots usually need a reline or adjustment, not a new set. Your gums and bone change over time, so most dentures need a reline every few years.

At the visit

How are dentures made?

The dentist takes impressions or a scan, records how your jaws meet, and has you try on a wax or printed version before the final denture is made. Expect several visits over a few weeks. If teeth need to come out first, ask about an immediate denture you can wear while the gums heal.

Getting used to new dentures takes a few weeks. Start with soft food cut small, and go back for adjustments if anything rubs.

Before you book

What should I ask the office?

  • Do you do same-day denture repairs or relines?
  • How many visits will new dentures take?
  • Can I get an immediate denture after extractions?
  • Do you offer implant-supported options?

And always: is the office in network for my insurance, and can I get a written treatment plan with costs before treatment starts?

How it works

How does the call work?

FindDentist365 isn't a dental office. We don't treat patients; we help you reach a dental office.

  1. Call and tell us what you need

A checkup, a toothache, braces, dentures: say it in your own words, plus your ZIP code. It takes about a minute.

  2. We connect you

Your call goes to a participating dental office or scheduling line that serves your area, when one is available.

  3. You book with the office

The office tells you its openings, which insurance it takes and its own prices. You decide whether to book.

Questions

Dentures: common questions

Can a broken denture be fixed the same day?

Some offices and dental labs repair cracked dentures or replace a broken tooth the same day or the next day. Ask when you're connected.

Why do my dentures hurt?

Sore spots usually mean the fit has changed. A dentist can adjust or reline the denture. Don't try to file or glue it yourself.

Will the dentist take my insurance?

Plans differ from office to office, including Medicaid and CHIP dental plans. Have your insurance card ready and ask the office before you book. If you don't have insurance, ask whether they offer payment plans or a membership plan.

Do I have to book an appointment?

No. The office tells you its openings, the insurance it takes and its prices, and you decide whether to book. If you book with a dental office, you pay that office directly for your care.

Who answers when I call?

We connect your call to a participating dental office or a dental scheduling line that serves your area, when one is available. We are not a dental office and we don't provide dental care.
